My name is
Steve Badger. I own
Play Winning Poker and am partners with
Shirley Rosario on
Poker Babes, two of the top 25 by traffic poker information
websites on the Internet.
For a couple years after
I opened Playwinningpoker.com in 2000, only three other sites on the current top 25 list (Pokerpages.com, Twoplustwo.com and
to a lesser extent Thepokerforum.com) were getting a really meaningful amount of web traffic, which meant they could get
paid-in-advance advertising from those wanting to expose their product to these poker-interested web surfers. Others like
Cardplayer.com and Poker.net were in existence, but did not yet "get" that the public was hungry for quality
information online, and were willing to literally "search" it out. Today there are over one hundred very good to
high quality poker information sites out there, plus thousands of mediocre and low quality ones. The competition is nearly
infinitely greater, but fortunately the number of people (especially internationally) seeking out quality poker strategy
and information has grown almost as explosively as the number of sites has.
More significantly, back then one cardroom commanded 85%+ of the market. Today there are a couple dozen significant
poker rooms, and you can't walk around the block without tripping over a skin of one of the card room networks.
One aspect of this brave new world is that a lot of people opening websites really have no clue about poker, and it
shows. They just want to make advertising or affiliate dollars from the skill of being able to put up a website on the
topic. These "hey, let's build a poker site" folks can manage to make reasonable money, particularly if their skill
is to know how to rank in search engines. A new day is coming though, when more people know what they are doing, and to be
blunt about it, multimillion dollar companies will no longer be able to compete with the multibillion dollar cardrooms
for search traffic. That day is still a ways off though because to date the cardrooms are quite lame at search marketing.
In any case, I finally gave in to the idea of putting up a poker-focused search engine news and views site, mostly to
try help improve the ability of search engines to discern quality poker content, because that is what I try to create
and the more cruft there is out there, the harder it is for the engines to discern the real quality stuff.
The second reason, way down here at the bottom of the page, is to mention that I do consider and take offers to do poker search
marketing consulting for other companies. Before you start running for your checkbook though, the minimum price is in the six
figures (except for limited situations consulting for a strictly brick & mortar casino or cardroom). So if you aren't an
eight, nine or ten-figure business, you probably can't afford a deal, but if you are, below is a contact email address:

Another alternative would be to check out and contact
Randy Ray for poker SEO consulting. |
