Poker Site Traffic Rankings - Top 25 Poker Information Websites

Any traffic ranking estimates are inaccurate, and some are more inaccurate than others. Alexa, for example, has been around a long time, despite its extremely inaccurate, easily manipulated rankings. Many sites even promote themselves by having employees use the clunky spyware known as the Alexa toolbar (which is entirely what Alexa bases rankings on). This becomes readily apparent if Alexa says most website visitors come from some non-likely country (like Sweden), or if many visitors go to password-protected subdomains. Novices may look at Alexa, but experienced professionals pay it little attention. Imperfect, but much more accurate ranking outfits are Hitwise.com, Compete.com and Quantcast.com. (See the tables below.)

Accessing Hitwise data scales upwards from $20,000 for a year. Data from Compete.com and Quantcast.com is free. The first major disclaimer is all these numbers are US traffic only, which means that the traffic numbers for multi-language sites like pokernews.com, playwinningpoker.com, pokertips.org, poker-babes.com and cardschat.com are significantly lower than they really are, and that the real market share for the English-only sites is lower than it appears -- because the multi-language sites are more popular than they appear, and because one-language sites like pokerlistings.de or poker.fr are basically not counted at all.

The Hitwise data below is averaged over the entire year of 2007, while Compete.com and Quantcast numbers are current for the timeframe stated on the table.

Forums rank better with Hitwise because the same visitor is counted many times, while Compete.com and Quantcast count a visitor once a month regardless of how many times he or she visits a site. Compete.com seems to also consistently favor forums over non-forums compared to Quantcast, which makes that the main difference between their numbers. Rogue sites making glitches via pop-ups or other tactics are discarded.

Finally, some choices of what to include as "poker" sites was arbitrary. Hitwise has "poker" and "gambling directories" categories, but what they do and don't include is inconsistent. Cardrooms are not included here. Sites listed at the end of the article were not included for various reasons.

*These sites have placed the Quantcast.com pixel on their site's pages so their numbers also include a global traffic number, but their US numbers are listed here for consistency (and that is how Quantcast.com shows their overall rank). Also, the addition of the pixel no doubt significantly increases the visitor count for sites that have it, and the number is likely quite accurate.
