Established
in 2004 by Nick Kisberg, a teenager at the time, Cardschat.com is not the busiest online poker forum out there and it certainly
is not the most in your face with advertising, but it is one of the top 25 most trafficked poker portal sites due largely to
Kisberg's willingness to work hard at promoting it.
When the poker boom really boomed, there were thousands of folks who suddenly thought, "hey, I'll build a poker site and
zillions will come." Well, when there are thousands of sites out there, "If you build it, they will come" is pretty
delusionally optimistic strategy.
To get people to come to a poker site you have to put effort into it, in more ways than one. The most basic is to build
content that people will want to see. So, on top of its forums, Cards Chat has strategy articles, reviews and an online
poker guide available for visitors to take advantage of.
That is just the start of it though. On top of having content, Cards Chat presents that content in both a user and
search-engine friendly fashion. While user friendliness and search friendliness normally go hand in hand, this reality seems
to escape most people who build poker-focused websites. You have to build content people want to see. You have to get people
to come see that content. Cards Chat does that without a lot of extra fuss.
Of all the sites listed in the top 25 that are primarily forums,
Cards Chat has by far the strongest search engine presence. |
