Easily the
most surprising, to me, member of the top 25 poker information sites is Home Poker Games.
Homepokergames.com has been around since late 2003. It's debut was not very admirable, as it ripped content from other
domains to get itself going, but it quickly achieved a significant level of success, partly due to recognizing that
information about poker players was rare online, but even more significantly (it seems clear now) that people around the
United States were very eager to TRY to find local poker games.
Homepokergames.com generally ranks in the top 3 for any sort of "Laramie Wyoming poker" search. While none of these terms
will ever be very popular, the sheer volume of possible "locality state poker" searches makes those searches perhaps the
biggest long tail search area there is, assuming a site has the wisdom to include the major city names on any page devoted
to home games in each state.
Looking for an underexposed niche to build a poker site around, here you go.
Of course, besides long tail locality searches, Homepokergames.com also ranks in the top 10 on Google and MSN for the high
volume "poker games" search.
Additionally, and perhaps most important, there is a lot of depth on the domain, leading it to rank for multiple non-poker
searches, like "horse betting" (#2 on Google) and "keno odds" (#3 on Google, #10 on Yahoo and #1 on MSN). |
