Learn-texas-holdem.com
was for a long time the most obvious domain to acquire in the poker sector. Deep content, virtually no advertising (so
little income), and (after Texasholdem-poker.com) the second best ranking Texas Holdem focused domain. Since being acquired
by the Pokerlistings.com folks in 2006, the domain got a facelift and the extra oomph to propel into the top 25.
The weakness of Learn Texas Holdem is in its triple one-trick-pony aspect. 1) It depends more on search traffic than any
other domain in the top 25. 2) The vast majority of its search traffic comes from Google. 3) The vast majority of visitors
come via Texas Holdem related searches.
As one trick ponies go, that is about the best trifecta you can get, but still, losing any one leg from that tripod would
devastatingly impact the site's traffic.
The site also now offers non-Texas Holdem content, like the usual tournament and freeroll information that can be found on a
thousand other sites, but it is its large supply of Texas Holdem articles that attract large volumes of visitors as well as
what sets it apart from the mass of generic poker sites out there. Instead of running away from that, it would seem
embracing it more would be in order -- although if the thinking is that the site is a three trick pony like I suggest above,
then I can see the value in adding commonly available information to the site's offerings. Still, something that is strongly
valued (by Google anyway) for its unique nature ought to consider playing that to the hilt. Pokerlistings.com though has
always leaned toward the "portal" end of the spectrum rather than the "information" side, so more playing
down of the Hold'em strategy aspect of the site might be what the future holds. |
