 The Poker Forum
is one of the older poker portal sites, originally put online in 2000. While it is in fact a forum, it also has a large
number of news and strategy articles... so in its way it straddles all three of the traditional poker information site types.
One way this can be seen is in how its traffic is not like other poker forums, which tend to have high percentages of
dedicated users, which inflates their Hitwise traffic numbers but does not reflect as well on Compete.com and Quantcast.com,
where only monthly unique visitors are counted. Quantcast in fact shows a percentage of "regular" visitors higher
than the news and strategy sites, but no "addicts", which you normally see at all the other forums. So in other words,
Thepokerforum.com straddles three different worlds, but also exists in a world all its own.
Thepokerforum.com is also atypical in that its percentage of search engine visitors is much higher than sites like Twoplustwo.com
and Pocketfives.com, but much lower than Texasholdem-poker.com, Playwinningpoker.com and Pokerlistings.com. It does however have
more in common with the latter group. In other words, the site is more of a search engine traffic destination than a forum with
regulars (even if its percentage of traffic from search engines does not rise to the level of the top group).
A great deal of Thepokerforum.com's ongoing search success is due to strong showings for a few major terms, for example,
it has been in the Yahoo top ten for a one word poker search since Yahoo started hand sorting the top results in 2004 --
including being #1 a large amount of that time. They no longer are in the top 10 for a Google one word poker search,
but they have several other excellent rankings. |
